A 72-bed care home could be built in Bradford under new plans.

A proposal to build the house on land at Kimberwicke Walk, off Harrogate Road in Eccleshill, has been submitted to Bradford Council.

Developer Torsion Care said the “modern, high-quality, attractive and sustainable development” would create around 75 jobs, including 50 full-time positions.

A decision on the application is expected in July.

A similar plan to build a care home on the site, next to Eccleshill Retail Park, was submitted by Holt Family Holdings in 2022 before being withdrawn later that year, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

In its application, Torsion Care said resident facilities would include dining rooms, a hair salon, assisted living and clinics, a music room, a wellness suite, an activity room and a sports lounge.

A planning statement said: “The proposal represents an inward investment which would make effective use of the undeveloped and vacant application site and improve this area of Bradford which is in a highly accessible location.”

He continued: “While the care facility has a demonstrable benefit by creating nursing home beds, a 72-bed care home also creates approximately 75 jobs (50 full-time and 25 part-time part-time), providing employment opportunities for those living in the surrounding area.

“This would increase spending in the local economy, providing an economic benefit to existing shops and services located nearby.”

The application said the company had carried out a survey of care bed needs shortly before submitting the plans.

It found that by 2025 a further 516 wet room care beds would be needed within a three mile radius of the site.
