The new Birmingham City manager has seven men ready for blood in League One

Relegation to League One could prove to be the making of a talented group of youngsters at Birmingham City. The Blues have dropped down to the third tier for the first time in 30 years after a difficult campaign in the Championship.

One of the strengths that Knighthead have clung to throughout the season is the performance of their youth teams. The Under-18s came top, while the Under-21s will contest the end-of-season play-offs after an impressive performance in the Professional Development League. Steve Spooner’s squad includes a number of players who could be useful assets in League One.

Romelle Donovan

Still only 17 years old, Donovan is the great hope of the Blues academy. He joined the first team permanently under Wayne Rooney and made 10 appearances last season, including two starts.

Donovan dropped back to the under-21s in February and has been a shining light in their rise to promotion. He scored 11 times for the second string from a variety of forward positions.
