Manchester United want to double Matheus Cunha’s wages to bolster weak attack force – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Wolves’ Matheus Cunha to provide support for Rasmus Hojlund in the striking department.

The Red Devils have struggled for goals all season, scoring 57 league goals as they finished eighth in the table.

Only Rasmus Hojlund, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Alejandro Garnacho have reached double figures for the Reds in all competitions.

There was a huge amount of pressure placed on the shoulders of 21-year-old Rasmus Hojlund. He arrived at the club with a hefty price tag of £72m and was soon thrust into the limelight as fellow striker Anthony Martial picked up an injury in December and missed the rest of the season.

This meant that the young Dane had to carry the burden of being the only recognized forward in the entire senior team in his debut season. It was far from ideal. He still managed 16 goals, but struggled as he went through long goal droughts and barely got involved in some games.

INEOS have therefore made it a clear objective of this window to try and bring in an experienced player who can help share the burden of being the main goalscorer at the Theater of Dreams.

The Mirror reported that Cunha could be the solution to INEOS’ problems.

“Manchester United are targeting £60million Wolves star Matheus Cunha,” claims reporter Steve Bates. “And I’m also hot on the heels of West Ham’s African star Mohammed Kudus.”

“Old Trafford scouts have been keeping tabs on Brazilian forward Cunha last season – and he is believed to be at the top of their target list as United look to replace the departed Frenchman Anthony Martial.”

Cunha has made a stunning start to his England career, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists in an “impressive season”. Bates notes that “his absence towards the end of the season was a big reason why Wolves slipped down the table”.

The forward is said to “fit perfectly” the profile of players Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants as he is “aggressive, dynamic and ambitious”.

Wolves will want to keep hold of the player, but United will try to lure the forward by offering him double his £60,000-a-week wages.

United are also said to be interested in West Ham’s 14-goal scorer Kudus, but has also been heavily linked with arch-rivals Liverpool.

At 25 and 23, both players fit the proven Premier League book, but are ready to make the next step, as is fellow target Michael Olise of Crystal Palace.
