All key developments planned for Greater Manchester

Huge housing developments have been submitted to Greater Manchester councils this week, with plans in Bury, Manchester and Salford the ones to watch for locals.

Albion Mill in Bury is now undergoing plans to convert it into residential housing. This would come in the way of 42 new flats.

In Salford, more specifically in Walkden, there are proposals to create a new five-storey tower block to create new homes for the area.

Land to the west of the Stocks Hotel on Manchester Road is the desired location for developers. This would be a tower block that is full of affordable housing, if approved.

In Manchester city centre, a tower block of 99 homes has been proposed as part of the Victoria North project. A wasteland was chosen as the site for the construction of the block with the eight-story part and the nine-story part.

Screw on

Work on a huge new job site is set to begin with roads and footpaths being built

Work on the first phase of a massive new industrial development is set to begin after detailed plans were published.

In June 2021, developers Harworth Group plc gained planning approval to develop up to 1.1m sq ft of logistics and manufacturing space at its Wingates, Westhoughton premises. They say the development has the potential to create up to 1,500 new jobs.

The Wingates site is close to junction 6 of the M61 and the existing site of Harworth Logistics North, the largest live commercial development in the North West.

Bury

The upper floors of a former cotton factory are to be converted into 42 apartments

More than 40 flats could be created by converting the upper floors of a Bury mill building.

The first, second and third floors of Albion Mill on Albion Street are the subject of a planning application for the conversion of retail space to residential use. Applicant Bracknell Properties Ltd wants to build 42 self-contained flats.

The application does not request any changes to the ground floor of the mill which will remain in use in its current warehouse form.

Manchester

99 apartments comes to the “key” of the city center

A 99-storey block of flats, part eight, part nine, with 99 flats, currently being used for car parking and building material storage, in New Cross could end up on the wasteland.

The area is being built in part as part of the Victoria North project, which will add 35,000 people to the city’s population once completed. New Cross is the southernmost tip of that project area, so it represents an important point where the city center and the new suburbs will meet.

Developers Cert Property say the 1111 Cross Keys scheme will have 31 one-bedroom apartments, 67 two-bed units and one three-bed unit.

Oldham

No new significant planning applications have been submitted to Oldham Council this week.

Rochdale

Primary school extension and playground planned

St John C Of E Primary School in Rochdale has submitted plans to expand and create a new play area.

The Thornham Lane site is looking to extend its building to meet future demand for places, increasing capacity from 105 to 210 pupils. The two-storey extension would provide more classroom space and the multi-purpose play area (MUGA) would also increase the capacity of the playground.

Salford

A five-storey block of flats could be built in the Salford borough with new ‘affordable’ homes.

A new five-storey block of flats could be built in a Salford neighborhood to bring more “affordable” homes to the area.

The plans have been submitted to Salford council by the Alderley Group, a company specializing in building affordable homes in the North West. If approved, the scheme would deliver 46 new flats for “older people” aged 55 and over on land to the west of the Stocks Hotel on Manchester Road in Walkden, with car and cycle parking.

Stockport

No new significant planning applications have been submitted to Stockport Council this week.

Tameside

New 20m high 5G mast planned for Droylsden

Plans have been submitted for a new 20m tall telecommunications tower in the Droylsden area.

The mast would be raised to increase 5G coverage in the area. The applicant, Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Limited, wants to build it on the pavement opposite Somerset Road, alongside aerials and an equipment cabinet.

Trafford

They plan to turn the clinic into seven apartments

A doctor has submitted a planning application to turn a clinic in Urmston into a complex of seven flats with an equal number of garages.

Dr Nafees Zakir presented the scheme for the Cornhill Clinic on Cornhill Road, Davyhulme. The plan includes three ground floor apartments, each with two beds, and four first floor apartments split equally between one and two bed houses.

The application also offers bin storage on the premises of the large red brick property.

Wigan

The house could soon be converted into apartments

Plans have been submitted to convert a house into two self-contained flats in the Leigh area of ​​Wigan.

The scheme is for a property in Brideoak Street. The plaintiff is Christopher Travers, of Hope Street Leigh.
