Man City ‘interested’ in Ederson’s replacement as talks begin over £60m move

Manchester City will be busy ahead of the new season, also keeping an eye on potential transfer targets.

City finished the campaign as Premier League champions for the fourth consecutive season and the sixth time in the Pep Guardiola era. Work is now already underway to anticipate the start of the upcoming campaign in August at the Etihad Stadium.

With that in mind, City are already being linked with a potential move for new signings this summer. The transfer window is set to open at the end of this month and it remains to be seen what business City will look to complete to strengthen their squad for the new season.

Reports have emerged in recent weeks claiming to provide updates on what City will be doing in the transfer window this summer. The latest rumors are about a potential new goalkeeper and midfielder.

According to the German news publication Sport Bild, City are interested in signing Werder Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer. The report claims that City are preparing for the possibility that one of Ederson or Stefan Ortega leaves the club this summer.

Ederson has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in the past two weeks. As a result, the report claims that City are interested in signing Zetterer, who is contracted to the Bundesliga club until 2028.

Zetterer is said to have a release clause in his contract at Werder Bremen, which is due to expire this month. However, the value of the apparent clause was not reported.

Elsewhere, City face a battle to sign Porto midfielder Alan Varela. City have been heavily linked with the 22-year-old in recent weeks, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich also credited with an interest.

According to the Spanish news publication Diario AS, it is Liverpool who are set to make a bid to sign Varela. It has been claimed that the Anfield club are “intensifying talks” to sign the midfielder, who is believed to have a €70m (£60m) release clause in his contract at Porto.
