Daniel Sturridge sends Michael Edwards a message at Liverpool amid Jurgen Klopp’s concerns

Daniel Sturridge says the presence of Michael Edwards and Mike Gordon at Liverpool will help reverse a drop-off following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

Sturridge spent almost six years with the Reds and played under Klopp for over three of those, winning the Champions League in 2019, before his departure as a free agent later that summer.

The former striker believes Klopp, whose almost nine-year tenure saw him win eight trophies in total, should be recognized as one of the club’s greatest ever managers, but the former England star sees no reason why a structure with new look at Anfield won. not prosper.

In an interview with The Times, Sturridge says his knowledge of how Edwards – who officially returned to the club on Saturday as “CEO of football” of owners Fenway Sports Group – and FSG chairman Gordon gives him confidence that the Reds will not suffer without the talismanic Klopp at the helm.

“(Klopp) has done incredible things,” Sturridge said. “I don’t think that was the expectation when he arrived. The relationship he had with people was magnificent. He will be remembered as Liverpool’s greatest manager.

“Now the club is in a period of transition. New manager, players coming out of contract — it’s just that kind of time. But the team behind it is amazing.
