Greater Manchester Police have launched an appeal as a woman dies following a collision

The incident happened on Mauldeth Road West on Friday afternoon

Greater Manchester Police said a woman who was seriously injured in a collision on Friday (May 31) has died.

The woman, who was 22, was injured when she was involved in a collision with a vehicle on Mauldeth Road West in Withington, in the south of the city.

Police were called to the scene shortly after the incident occurred at 11:52 a.m. to provide emergency treatment to the woman.

She was taken to hospital by emergency services but sadly died from her injuries.

Two men, aged 18 and 20, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the incident.

Following initial investigations, one of the men was released without further action, while the second was released on bail pending further enquiries.

Speaking about the force’s handling of the case, Sergeant Andrew Page from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit paid tribute to the woman on her tragic death.

“Our thoughts are with the family of this young woman at this tragic time,” he said. “They are supported by specially trained officers and we will continue to do everything we can to get answers for them.

“If you witnessed anything or have additional information, we would appreciate it if you could come forward and help us with our enquiries.”

Page added that anyone who witnessed the collision, or if anyone has dashcam or dash cam footage of the crash, should get in touch as soon as possible.

“Everything can be used to help us determine how a young woman lost her life under such painful circumstances,” Page said.
