Bruno Fernandes’ Man Utd future is up in the air as agent ‘opens up’ transfer talks

Manchester United could lose the services of Bruno Fernandes this summer, with the midfielder’s agent reportedly holding talks with Bayern Munich.

Fernandes, 29, has been one of United’s most influential players since joining the club in 2020, but that has not deterred other clubs from targeting the Portugal international in recent weeks.

Bayern Munich have been widely reported to be interested in the Manchester United captain, who is under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2026 – and the German giants have now apparently made a move.

As first revealed by Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho has opened talks with Bayern ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The report also points out that Barcelona are monitoring the situation and could join Bayern in making an approach for the player, who has scored 79 goals and contributed a further 65 assists in 232 appearances for the Red Devils since joined from Sporting Lisbon.

Speculation over Fernandes’ future and the possibility that he could move on from Old Trafford after four-and-a-half years has increased in recent weeks. And while Manchester United are expected to be open to selling players this summer, it remains to be seen whether they will receive offers for such a key figure.

Fernandes himself has been coy about his future in recent weeks, stressing that he would not think about such things until after Euro 2024. He, however, insisted he wanted to stay at Old Trafford ahead of United’s FA Cup win cup final against Manchester City last weekend.

Fernandes gave an in-depth interview with The Player’s Tribune in the build-up to that game and dropped his clearest hint yet on his future, saying: “I love going out to Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I do not want to go. This has always been my ultimate dream.

“I just want my expectations to match the expectations of the club. If you go talk to any fan, they will tell you the same thing.

“We want to compete for the league. We want to play football in the Champions League. We want to be in the cup final. This is the standard. This is what I want. You all deserve that.”
