Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow has died aged 41 after a brave battle with motor neurone disease, it has been confirmed.

Burrow, who had a decorated 17-year rugby league career, was diagnosed in 2019 – two years after he retired from the game.

He lived with the disease for five years and helped raise awareness in an attempt to help find a cure.

In 2021, Burrow was awarded an MBE for both his services to sport and his fundraising work – before later being upgraded to a CBE.

Leeds announced his death on Sunday evening, hailing him as “a true lifelong inspiration, whether it was on the rugby league field or during his battle with MND”.
