The appointment of Enzo Maresca could see the former Chelsea boss return to the Premier League

Former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has been linked with a return to the Premier League this summer, with reports in Italy claiming he has been approached by Leicester City.

The Foxes are on the hunt for a new boss, with Enzo Maresca set to join Chelsea. The Italian led Leicester to the Championship title in one year in charge of the club and is closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge on a five-year deal with the option of a further year.

On Friday, Sportitalia’s head of transfers, Alfredo Pedulla, claimed Leicester had made contact with Sarri as the search for a new manager began. However, they are not the only club interested with Lazio, Bologna and Panathinaikos all said to have made contact.

Sarri has been unemployed since leaving Italian side Lazio in March. He is said to be in no rush to make a decision on his future, with the report adding that he “prefers to wait a few more days” before giving an answer.

However, football Italia claim that Sarri has already turned down the opportunity to join Leicester and is “awaiting more interesting proposals”. West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan is currently the bookies’ favorite to take Maresca’s place at the King Power Stadium.

Sarri spent one season in charge of Chelsea between 2018 and 2019. He led the club to a third-place finish in the Premier League and a Europa League win before leaving to join Italian giants Juventus.
