The fire broke out around 3:00 p.m. West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service (WMFRS) quickly rushed to the scene in response.

The cause of the fire has not yet been identified. However, some social media users reported hearing EXPLOSION before seeing smoke. These reports have yet to be confirmed by officials. The fire broke out in the Newton area of ​​the city. Numerous spectators witnessed the incident. One witness described how the fire “spread very quickly” and caused “smoke everywhere”.

A WMFRS spokesman acknowledged the scale of the situation, saying: “We currently have a large number of firefighters dealing with a fire incident on Lower Tower Street in Newtown, Birmingham. Please avoid the area”. The spokesman also advised residents to keep windows and doors closed. This is to avoid thick smoke which swallowed the city.
