The actions of the former Wiltshire Police detention officer amounted to misconduct

The staff member would have been dismissed had he not resigned

A former detention officer with Wiltshire Police would have been sacked if he had not already resigned.

A misconduct hearing at the force’s headquarters in Devizes found that the staff member’s actions constituted discreditable conduct.

The charges centered on the fact that the individual failed to notify the organization of a notifying association – namely a sex worker.

Another charge involved the person taking up employment elsewhere while under suspension from the force and failing to register or apply for authorization to do so.

Deputy Chief Constable Craig Dibdin said:

“We expect the highest standards from everyone at Wiltshire Police – officers, staff and volunteers.

“The individual in this case did not follow the policies and procedures in place to ensure we operate in the most transparent way possible.

“I would like to make a direct plea to our communities – whenever you have concerns about a member of Wiltshire Police – please report them to us. We will take firm action against anyone whose conduct does not meet our expectations.

“We also routinely encourage all members of the Force to use an anonymous reporting tool if they have concerns about the behavior of a colleague.”

The force now has a Safe2Say anonymous reporting system – a bespoke internal reporting system for officers, staff and volunteers to have the confidence to report wrongdoing, concerns they have or information about the workforce in Wiltshire.
