Safety fears outside Coventry school after ‘multiple incidents’ involving pupils

Requests are being made for safety measures outside Ash Green School. They are supported by the Ash Green Road Safety Organisation.

The secondary school is said to be one of the only ones in Warwickshire that does not have a safe crossing for students or a 20mph speed limit on local roads. “There have been multiple incidents involving pedestrians on this road in the last year alone,” the group said.

“We want to increase the safety of students walking to and from school and reduce the number of students involved in road accidents. Ash Green Lane is a busy road with heavy traffic, which makes it dangerous for pedestrians, especially children.”

In an attempt to improve safety, the group is calling for a raised zebra crossing to be installed outside the school. “This will not only slow down vehicles, but also provide a safer crossing point for our children and other residents,” the group said.

They launched a petition urging Warwickshire County Council, which is responsible for both the county’s roads and schools, to install the much-needed safety measure.
