“I’m sorry it’s late!” – Elton John sets up a £10 football bet with Gary Lineker

Sir Elton John has apologized to Gary Lineker for placing a £10 bet weeks late after his beloved Watford Football Club lost to Leicester City.

Match of the Day host Lineker shared a photo on social media which featured a handwritten card from the Rocket Man singer alongside a £10 note.

The card read: “Dear Gary, I’m sorry I’m late! With Christmas we ran a little short!

“Have a wonderful new year. It was so great to see you! Thank you. Love Elton.”

Former England footballer Lineker captioned his post: ‘Never let it be said that Elton John doesn’t pay his debts. Leicester 2 Watford 0.”

The football teams played against each other on 25 November, with Jamie Vardy scoring twice to give Leicester their first win in three matches.

Leicester-born Lineker played for his home team from 1978 to 1985 before moving to Everton.

Sir Elton has been a Watford fan since childhood, attending matches with his father at the Vicarage Road Stadium from the age of five.

He later became vice-chairman of the club before buying it in 1976, when he became president and chairman.

In 2002, the veteran singer stepped down as club president for the final time, but remained the club’s honorary life president.
