Antique Train Run June 9 in Sheffield to benefit fire department, historical society – local Shaw

Antique Train Rides are coming to Sheffield on Sunday 9th June.

It’s been more than 10 years since Sheffield held this event. The event is co-sponsored by the Sheffield Fire Department and the Sheffield Historical Society as a fundraiser. The Iowa Interstate Railroad restores and maintains vintage steam engines, diesel engines and saloon cars in order to team up with volunteer fire departments to help raise funds to support them.

This year, restored 1920s saloon cars will provide a comfortable ride, powered by diesel engines built in 1970 in Chicago. The IAIS-owned steam engines have been pulled for major overhauls and are not available until 2027. Five vintage 1920s-era passenger train cars (originally built for the Pennsylvania Railroad and rebuilt after World War II) are equipped with lavatories modern. Heat and air conditioning are not available for these rides. Passengers must be able to board with the help of volunteers if necessary, however, these trains are not Americans with Disabilities Act compliant.

The train will board the north side of the tracks at the Main Street crossing in Sheffield and travel just east of the Geneseo city limits. All rides are approximately 40 miles round trip and take approximately 45 minutes. Guests are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure to find parking, collect tickets (they will call) and board the train. A food stand will be available sponsored by the Sheffield Fire Department.

Tickets are still available but limited. The midday ride is sold out. There are still tickets left for the 9am journey and a limited number of tickets left for the 10.30am journey. Tickets can be purchased ($15 per person, children 2 and under ride free on an adult’s lap) by phone using a credit card. The phone number for the Sheffield Fire Department is 815-454-2212 (leave a message and someone will return your call).
