Brian Deane wants Ipswich Town’s Leeds United star Joe Rodon to hate scoring in January

Leeds United fans were clamoring for a striker in January and Brian Deane wants the Whites to sign a striker to push the Whites into the play-offs.

Joel Piroe’s form dipped after a solid first half of the season, but Patrick Bamford bounced back from failing to score a single goal in 2023 this term to go on to score nine times since January.

Leeds could have done with a striker, but Bamford’s form has probably put an end to their need for a new striker, with Leeds only signing Wales international Connor Roberts in the winter window on loan from Burnley.

At the start of the January window, Leeds were linked with a move for another Wales star in the form of Kieffer Moore, his playing time at Bournemouth limited in the Premier League.

Leeds were said to be among those who are aware of Moore’s situation and are keeping an eye on the big striker. But of course Moore moved to Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich instead of Leeds and has been playing ever since.

Former Leeds forward Deane says he wants the 49ers to make a move to sign the £40,000-a-week Moore:

Deane wishes Leeds United had signed Kieffer Moore

Having previously played 155 times in the Championship and scored 47 goals, Moore is renowned as a specialist at this level and he showed under McKenna in the second half of the season at Portman Road.

He scored seven goals in 18 appearances for Ipswich, helping them finish above Leeds in second place. Speaking to Tribal Football, Deane says he wishes Leeds had signed Moore instead of Ipswich in January.

“When Ipswich went for Kieffer Moore I thought ‘this is the guy Leeds need’. To provide a different option up front. I don’t think Leeds know how to win badly. That’s the problem,” Deane told Tribal Football.

What Joe Rodon has said about Ipswich striker Moore in the past

Moore is obviously that physical presence who will have a battle with a centre-back and physically try to outrun them. Rodon has been on the receiving end of that and talked about facing Moore in practice.

Speaking in 2021, Rodon said: “He’s a great boy. You saw there that’s a problem, he brings that physical presence. Great to have on the team. I don’t like it (his marking in training) to be honest.”

Moore played 41 times for Wales and scored 12 goals, half of which were assisted by Dan James. So chances are it was a good signing, but now, now we’ll never know.
