Britain braces for first 31C heat wave of the year as weather maps burn bright red

UK weather maps scorched ahead of the year’s first dreadful 31C day. According to WX Charts, which publishes daily weather maps and charts, temperatures could reach over 30 degrees Celsius in London and southern areas on Sunday 16 June.

Birmingham and the south coast will also experience favorable conditions as the 30C mark looks set to be breached for the first time this summer. Despite promising reports from the Met Desk and WX Charts, the Met Office remains unconvinced.

An update from June 14 to early July said: “Heavy rain continues across the north of the country over the weekend, most frequent in the north-west, but may tend to decrease compared to previous days.

“It can shower in southern areas, but it often dries out with variable cloud and sunny spells. It is likely to remain changeable in the north into next week and into mid-June, with showers or longer spells of rain at times, but also a few drier interludes.

“While rain remains possible in the south, it should still be a good chunk of dry weather here. Little chance of a more extended spell developing next week. Rather cool at the start of the period, temperatures are likely to recover slowly. back to average, with an increasing chance of warmer spells, particularly in the south.”

Its forecast for June 17 to July 1 adds: “There is a slight shift in the most favored regime from more unstable to stable conditions during this period, although by relatively small margins, this is linked to a slight trend towards drier conditions and warmer, particularly in the south as the period progresses.

“Overall, a continuation of variable, slow-moving weather patterns is likely through much of June, with high pressure becoming more dominant from the west at the end. Temperatures are most likely to be around or above normal.”
