The thirteenth round of Super League ended earlier with Salford Red Devils victorious over London Broncos and now all eyes turn to Wembley and the Challenge Cup Final where Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves will meet, however both sides are concerned of accidents.

It’s not just Wigan and Warrington that have had injury problems this week, with several other teams picking up knocks and woes, but with Super League on hold next week for the Challenge Cup Final, those Wigan and Wire injuries are most pressing.

Head coaches for that game, Sam Burgess and Matt Peet, took different approaches, with Burgess fielding four debuts and resting stars such as Matt Dufty, Matty Ashton, Paul Vaughan, Lachlan Fitzgibbon and others, with captain George Williams also suspended .

As for Wigan, Matt Peet has seen fit to rest Jai Field, Abbas Miski, Liam Farrell and Jake Wardle, but such is the depth of Wigan’s squad that many of the first team members are still left out. It’s a decision they may regret now, with Wigan looking certain to lose Adam Keighran to suspension following his red card, while Tyler Dupree could be in hot water for a possible head knock.

However, Wigan managed to pick up the two points as they edged the Wire 19-18, and those two crucial points could earn them a home play-off semi-final near the end of the season, but possible suspension, injury and Saturday’s result. at Wembley will tell us what the cost was.

Friday’s games saw St Helens beat the Catalans 24-12, while struggling Huddersfield returned to winning ways with a 24-18 victory over Hull FC. FC’s rivals Hull KR continued their impressive season by dispatching Leigh Leopards with a 12-0 win at a sold-out Craven Park.

Saturday’s game, televised by the BBC, saw the pressure released by Rohan Smith as Leeds Rhinos ran out 32-6 winners in the Castleford Tigers derby at Headingley. Sunday’s action saw Salford Red Devils run away with a 34-4 win over London Broncos, following on from leading just 6-0 at half-time.

While there may be no Super League games next week, there is a Challenge Cup final and of course the injuries could extend even further into Round 14.

Liam Marshall is a concern for Wigan Warriors with a leg injury, however Matt Peet has played down concerns he will miss the final but it will remain one to watch.

Another player knocking on the door of a Wembley place is young Warrington prop Max Wood, but he could be sidelined after injuring his rib during the game. Wood continued, but it is another strike that will be watched in the build-up to Wembley on Saturday.

Away from the Challenge Cup final, Rohan Smith has spoken about a worrying injury to Andy Ackers, with the prostitute revealed to have a delayed concussion which saw him ruled out of the game against Castleford Tigers. Luis Roberts was also a late withdrawal for that game.

Smith said: “We didn’t think about it until that phone call last night. It was kind of a delayed symptom from a collision last week.”

Of Roberts, he added: “He’s had a groin injury, kind of off and on and off for most of the year. It barely made it into last week’s game.”

Further injuries came in the clash between St Helens and Catalans, with Konrad Hurrell seeing his ankle bruised under a tackle, but once again continued to play.

Two men unable to play further were Tariq Sims with a wrist injury and then Benjamin Garcia with a calf injury, two more names to add to Steve McNamara’s list of Super League injury problems.
