ITV’s The Chase is known for its unexpected comedy moments, but one incident has left fans furious.

A viewer shared a clip from the show on X (formerly known as Twitter), with the caption: “You have to see it to believe it.” Despite watching the clip several times, some fans confessed they “still didn’t believe it”.

The tension was palpable when host Bradley Walsh asked Chaser Jenny Ryan: “What confectionery company makes Revels?”. After a short pause, she answered “Cadbury”, which was incorrect. However, it was the contestants’ response that left the viewers in disbelief.

After hearing the wrong answer, Walsh said, “Stop the clock, that’s wrong,” and repeated the question to the two contestants. The female contestant suggested, “I can’t think of another… Mars?” before her teammate whispered, “Cadbury,” seemingly unaware that the Chaser had already given that answer.

“She said Cadbury,” the woman pointed out, but the man then turned to Walsh and said, “Cadbury” as his final answer, leaving the woman visibly confused.

A puzzled Walsh motioned to Ryan and reiterated, “She said Cadbury,” as the camera focused on Chaser. He then revealed that Mars was indeed the correct answer and pointed out that the man’s teammate gave the correct answer.

The man leaned over to congratulate her as she tried to hold back her laughter.

Viewers stood up after a contestant congratulated his teammate for giving the wrong answer on The Chase. A few jokingly suggested it would be put “in the dog house”, while more analyzed, “To be fair, I’m pretty sure the answer is Cadbury. Maybe give ‘Cadbury’ another try and see what it says.”

One viewer remarked: “He says that with so much conviction. He then followed it up with ‘well done”, while another joked it was an ‘unbelievable blunder’.

On the other hand, some observers defended his actions, justifying that: “It’s the stress of being fair. Plus adrenaline, I probably can’t hear the answer very well. So it’s designed to make people make mistakes, which is why Chaser didn’t break them.”
