11 SDG/Cornwall high school athletes qualify for OFSAA track and field

BELLEVILLE — SDG and Cornwall high school track and field athletes earned 37 places at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Eastern Region Championships held May 30-31 at Mary Ann Sills Park.

The athletes, who qualified for regionals following their placings at the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) championships held the week before in Brockville, competed for a top-four spot in Belleville to qualify at OFSAA athletics. championship is set to take place in London, Ont., later this week.

Finishes in 14 events qualified the 11 athletes to advance.

Some notable results included a first place finish at St. Joseph’s Gwendolyn Blackadder in the novice girls pole vault as she jumped 2.3 meters. Tagwi’s Abby MacLeod finished second with a time of 12.63 seconds in the junior girls’ 100m, as did La Citadelle’s Annabella Curtis in the junior girls’ 800m with a time of 2:24. 94. North Dundas District High School’s Connor England placed third in both the Novice Boys 100m and 200m. La Citadelle’s Jonah Gratton placed third in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles. Kai Morrow of St. Joseph’s placed fourth in the 1,500 and 3,000-meter runs.
