Man detained after police cordon off Bristol park

A man has been detained under the Mental Health Act following an incident in Bristol. Emergency services were called to the Kingsdown area of ​​the city at around 6.30pm this evening (Monday, June 3).

In a recent update, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that the man is now in the care of mental health services. A cordon was put in place at Kings Square Park, off Dove Street, following the incident.




In addition to the police, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene this evening. Footage shows a major 999 response as people were urged to avoid the area.

Avon and Somerset Police said: “A man has now been detained under the Mental Health Act and is now in the care of mental health services.”

They previously said: “Officers are in attendance at Kings Square Park, off Dove Street, in Bristol, this evening (Monday, June 3) to deal with a welfare incident, involving a man.

“We are asking people to avoid the area for the time being. Dove Street is closed and access to Kings Square Park is also restricted.”
