The crowd of the moment sings Hey Jude at the Queen Anne Pier Head celebrations

Hundreds of people burst into song as the party continued at the Pier Head tonight following Queen Anne’s naming ceremony today.

As the sun set on the waterfront, Craig Charles was on stage with the Liverpool Philharmonic.




Several Beatles songs were played, including All You Need is Love, Penny Lane and Here Comes the Sun.

But the crowd really got going when the notes for Hey Jude started. The Beatles classic is always guaranteed to get the people of this town singing along.

Thousands of people turned out at the Pier Head today for the naming ceremony of Cunard’s Queen Anne in a magnificent musical celebration of the city and its maritime heritage.

Having recently made her maiden voyage, Queen Anne arrived in Liverpool this morning for the naming ceremony – a moment marked by the traditional smashing of a bottle of champagne against the 249th vessel to bear the Cunard name.
