New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is targeting a move for James McAtee

New Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is lining up a move for Manchester City midfielder James McAtee, according to reports.

Maresca has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge with an option for a further year and will be under pressure to get the Blues back into the Champions League and win silverware.

The Italian guided Leicester City to the Championship title last season but the step up to Chelsea is huge, let alone for someone with just a full season of senior management experience under his belt.

Maresca’s eyes moved for McAtee

With a new manager sorted, attention now turns to what is sure to be another busy transfer window, with Chelsea reportedly looking to make four signings.

The Blues are believed to be targeting a goalkeeper, centre-back, left-back and striker as they look to further strengthen their squad and build on last season’s sixth-place finish.

The club have already reached an agreement to sign centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham, with the 26-year-old set to be announced as Chelsea’s new signing this week.

McAtee spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

The Sun reported on Sunday that Maresca is keen to make 21-year-old midfielder Mcatee one of his first signings.

Mcatee, currently a Manchester City player, spent last season on loan at relegated Sheffield United, where he scored three goals and provided three assists in 30 appearances for the Blades.

The report adds that McAtee could be available for around £20m and it was believed that Maresca would be keen to bring the midfielder to Leicester before he leaves the club.

The Italian worked with McAtee at City’s academy and the 21-year-old was part of the squad that won the Premier League 2 title for the first time in City’s history, alongside current Chelsea players Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia.

If Chelsea are eyeing a move for McAtee, they will face competition for his signature as he has also been linked with a loan move to Champions League new boys Girona.
