Manchester United fans have plenty to say as Omari Forson decides to leave for free

Manchester United are set to lose Omari Forson on a free transfer, with the winger set to leave the club.

One of Manchester United’s promising young players is set to leave the club at the end of the month when his contract expires.

Omari Forson is set to leave United on a free transfer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Forson is already attracting interest from other clubs.

Forson, 19, was handed his first-team debut by Erik ten Hag at the start of 2024 in the FA Cup against Wigan.

Omari Forson is gone

Omari Forson played a prominent role in the preseason last year, playing in six of eight games.

He played well for the under-21 side, scoring seven goals at academy level, before progressing to the first team.

Forson was handed his first start for United in the Premier League against Fulham, controversially selected ahead of Amad.

He played for an hour in defeat, with Erik ten Hag giving a lukewarm verdict on his display as “reasonable”.

Forson provided an assist for Kobbie Mainoo’s last-minute winner away to Wolves and came on as a substitute in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley against Coventry.

But by the end of the campaign, Forson had been overtaken by Amad, who started the last three Premier League games.

Forson did not make the bench for Manchester United’s FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

His contract status has been on the backburner despite his good progress, and the longer it goes without a resolution, the more you suspect Forson may opt out.

HITC reports that teammates Kobbie Mainoo and Willy Kambwala appealed to Forson to stay at United but he was determined to leave and informed the club through his representatives.

Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Leicester are said to be interested, along with Monaco and RB Leipzig.

It is a brave move by Forson to quit and the second big move of his career after joining United from Tottenham four years ago.

Manchester United fans react

Manchester United fans have had plenty to say in reaction to Omari Forson’s decision to leave the club.

One fan on X wrote: “When I didn’t see him at the FA Cup final I knew he was gone.”

Another said: “It’s sad he’s leaving and what makes it worse is he’s leaving on a free transfer.”

“Good luck to Omari Forson, a technically gifted player but not quite at the required level. Also need to find out his position, stuck between 10 and RW at the moment,” wrote another.

A fourth fan added: “I’m devastated to see Omari Forson leave the club but he has to do what’s best for him.”

Another wrote: “It’s a shame that Omari Forson will be moving on, but I think that’s been clear for months.”

“We won’t forget his assist for Mainoo’s late winner against Wolves,” added another.

Another fan added: “Not many get their first team debut and make multiple appearances at 19 for United. If that wasn’t enough to convince him he has a future here, then clearly he’s not material for United.”

While another warned: “We’ll regret seeing the script in 4 years.”
