Snakes take center stage in new exhibition at Leicester Museum

Some amazing reptiles will captivate visitors to Leicester’s museum and art gallery this summer as the city hosts a family-friendly exhibition celebrating the secret world of the snake.

Opening on Saturday (June 8), the free exhibition will feature iconic specimens such as the cobra, rattlesnake and green anaconda, while a 13m-long skeleton of a Burmese python will provide an insight into the anatomy of the giant reptile.

In total, 15 snake specimens will be on display, including snakes that can be found in the UK such as the grass snake and viper.

Snakes, skeletons and taxidermied models will be used to illustrate the range of habitats that snakes have adapted to, while their form and function will also be explored.

Supporting the snakes will be interactive displays providing fascinating information on the reptiles’ weight, length, feeding habits and camouflage, as well as some award-winning images of snakes in their natural habitats from around the world.

Snakes opens on Saturday 8th June and runs until Sunday 1st September. Entry is free.

Please note that no live snakes will appear on display and no snakes were harmed to produce the exhibit.

Snakes is a traveling natural history exhibition created by Blue Tokay.
