Man arrested on suspicion of murder in Leicester after woman found dead with ‘serious’ injuries

A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a house in Leicester. Leicestershire Police said the woman, 44-year-old Tarnjeet Riaz, also known as Chagger Girl, was found at an address in Tarbat Road, Thurnby Lodge, with serious injuries to her face and chest.

Police were called to the address by East Midlands Ambulance Service just before 1.30pm on Monday (May 6), the force said. The man was arrested at the scene. He remains in police custody.



Tarnjeet was from the High Wycombe area of ​​Buckinghamshire, police said. Detective Inspector Emma Matts, senior investigating officer, said: “An incident which took place inside that address on the morning of Monday 6 May unfortunately resulted in the death of Tarnjeet.

“A team of detectives are continuing to work to understand what happened and a cordon will remain in place while we thoroughly examine the scene. We currently have a man arrested in connection with Tarnjeet’s death and he continues to be interviewed by police.

“Family liaison officers have also been deployed and are supporting the victim’s family at this extremely difficult and distressing time.” Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to call 101 or report online via the Leicestershire Police website.
