Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie has been linked with a move to Turkey

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie is interested in Trabzonspor, a report from Turkish publication Milliyet has claimed.

Sheffield United have a big summer ahead of them as they prepare to drop out of the Premier League and return to Championship football.

Their only season back in the top flight was a dismal one. It means a big task ahead of Chris Wilder and company as they look to find joy in their return to the second tier.

Departures are inevitable, with some moving on after their contracts expire, while others are forced to be sold.

Striker Oli McBurnie is among those with exhausted offers, and it is now claimed the Sheffield United man is attracting interest from the continent ahead of the summer transfer window.

Turkish news agency Milliyet claims Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor are keen on McBurnie.

His status as a potential free agent has attracted the club’s attention and they could look to bring him alongside Southampton man Paul Onuachu, who has been on loan with Saints’ Trabzonspor this season.

THE QUIZ STARTS!

McBurnie’s situation

While McBurnie’s contract at Sheffield United expires this summer, it was confirmed at the club’s retained list announcement that talks are ongoing over the possibility of a new deal.

It means the ball is firmly in the striker’s court, with the Blades looking to hold him if possible, but the Scot is free to turn it down and explore pastures new if he so chooses.

If he opts not to put pen to paper at Bramall Lane, he will be free to look elsewhere and continue as a free agent. That would make him an astute signing for a host of clubs, and Trabzonspor are reportedly among those with an early interest.

McBurnie will more than likely have suitors in the UK as well. He has spent his entire career in the EFL and with more experience in the Premier League could attract attractive offers from some decent clubs.

One to hold on to?

McBurnie hasn’t been a regular source of goals in the Premier League, but six goals and three assists in 21 games for a struggling side is still a respectable return.

The Championship is a level he has thrived at though, finding success with both Sheffield United and former club Swansea City. He would be a huge asset for Wilder if he penned new terms, but second-tier rivals could try to lure him if he wants to become a free agent.

The Leeds-born 27-year-old has 44 goals in 125 Championship games and many would back him to find his form at this level again if he is to drop.

However, with Trabzonspor making a splash, McBurnie will be sure to weigh up his options with a big summer ahead.
