The former sandwich shop could become takeaway kebabs, pizzas and burgers

A new takeaway could be on the cards for a former village sandwich shop. Mr Ali Kulhas has submitted plans to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council for a ‘hot takeaway’ at 4 Arnold’s Crescent in Newbold Verdon.

The building previously housed Clare’s Bread and Butter, a sandwich shop, but documents filed with the application say the store has gone out of business and the building has been empty for more than six months. Proposed signs included in the application show the takeaway would sell pizzas, kebabs and burgers, if approved.

The application says a new extraction system will be needed for the takeaway cooking equipment as it says the current one is “not fit for purpose”. Mr Kulhas added that the new system “aims to follow the existing one in form and location to reduce its visual impact”.

The planning application documents read: “A loss-making shop is going. It’s lost. Now we have a chance to bring it back to (life) and create some jobs in the process which will add to the vibrancy and vibrancy of the area.

“An active front is on offer here. It is beyond logic and reason that the council will have a closed shutter with a FOR RENT sign in its place”.

Application documents can be viewed on the council’s online planning portal and comments and objections can be made until Wednesday 19 June.
