‘Exciting’… Leeds United player drops hint on Instagram amid £4m gentleman’s deal

Leeds United are expected to look to replace a number of Victor Orta’s loan army in the coming weeks and months and Diego Llorente is one of them after spending 18 months on loan.

The 30-year-old joined Leeds from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2020 and the arrival of the Spain international was seen as a coup, a player regarded as one of the best defenders in the League.

But over the next two-and-a-half years at Elland Road, he managed just 59 appearances for the Yorkshire side. Injury and lack of form have seen Llorente struggle to make any sort of impact at Leeds.

Despite signing a new contract in December 2022, he was loaned out to Roma to reunite with his old manager Jose Mourinho in January 2023, and Llorente has since become a regular for the Italian side.

Last season he played a part in helping Roma reach the Europa League final before joining on a season-long loan alongside Rasmus Kristensen and has made a further 42 appearances for the Giallorossi this season.

Diego Llorente drops hint on Instagram ahead of £4m move

There have been varying reports as to whether Roma would activate the £4.3m clause they boast in their loan deal to sign Llorente. But manager Daniele De Rossi is a fan, describing Llorente as “shaky”.

The latest report is that Roma, Leeds and Llorente have a gentleman’s agreement to complete the £4million deal and it looks like a permanent move will be finalised. Now, Llorente has hinted on Instagram.

Llorente posted this week: It’s time to look ahead and strike a balance. We couldn’t be happier because we have a team to be more committed and we are always trying to achieve big goals.

“However, we overcame difficult moments, left everything on the field. We are fought and we suffer. Thank you for your incredible support. Begin the days of disconnection, rest… and look forward.”

Llorente is one of four Leeds confident of selling this summer

Llorente has done well for Roma this season, no doubt. But Leeds will still be looking to move him on and he is not the only player on loan, with the 49ers looking to make a move in the coming months to raise funds.

Jack Harrison, Max Wober and Marc Roca have all been key players for Everton, Gladbach and Betis while on loan from Leeds and the Whites are confident they can command a fee for each of these players.
