Ealing Southall independent candidate Pedro Da Conceicao on why he wants to become an MP – EALING.NEWS – Ealing Voice 7 Cities

On 4 July 2024, the UK electorate goes to the polls to vote for who they want as a Member of Parliament.

EALING.NEWS asked all the candidates in the three constituencies of Ealing Ealing Central and Acton, Ealing North and Ealing Southall 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why residents want to vote for them.

Pedro Da Conceicao, independent in Ealing Southall, answers the 7 questions:

Tell us a little about yourself, your priorities for the constituency and why you want to be the next Member of Parliament for Ealing Southall.
My name is Pedro Da Conceicao and I have lived in Ealing all my life.

In recent years we have seen anti-social behavior becoming more and more prevalent in this community, particularly among young people. Despite repeatedly raising my concerns with my MP nothing was being done and so I decided to run. One of my main priorities is to increase youth programs and schemes to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. This would ensure that Ealing becomes a safer and better place for all.

Having grown up in this community, I would be well suited to handle the complex racial and cultural challenges that would arise in representing this area. Ealing Southall is a hugely diverse constituency and its leadership has neglected the interests of local people for years.

Locals have come to me complaining that their issues have also been ignored by the previous management and I have concluded that the best solution for the people of Ealing Southall would be for a real member of the community to represent them.

What motivates you?
I am motivated by the opportunity to help people, I believe that for many years British politics has been affected by dishonesty and lies. If enough good people decide to enter politics we can all make a real difference, the opportunity to make positive change motivates me to take the difficult path of being an independent candidate.

What is your personal connection to Ealing Southall or any other part of the borough?
I was born and raised in Hanwell all my life and every major milestone and memory of my childhood was in this borough. I have seen Ealing get progressively worse, as increasing child poverty leads young people to crime and violence, it is devastating to see a community I love become increasingly unsafe and dangerous.

What do you consider to be your 5 most important political or personal achievements and what impact did they have?
I lobbied my MP to promote initiatives to stop gang violence and knife crime and he agreed to allow me to hold a conference with police and young people, but then he didn’t go through with it .

What do you see as the top 5 challenges facing Ealing Southall and how will you tackle them as an MP?

  • Poor funding of public services
  • Antisocial behavior – drug and alcohol abuse
  • Lack of support for small businesses
  • Inequality of opportunity
  • Lack of security

I aim to promote cheap and sustainable community solutions to these problems, mainly giving troubled young people more opportunities to succeed in life by promoting apprenticeship schemes. In addition, anti-homelessness initiatives such as community hostels and more kitchens should be provided to help the homeless get back on their feet.

What do you love about Ealing?
I love the diversity and community that Ealing has to offer, not many communities in the UK benefit from a culmination of rich cultures like Ealing does, this helps me to want to fight to make Ealing a better place and safer. Diversity teaches us the importance of peaceful coexistence and mutual flourishing

How accessible will you be to the residents of Ealing Southall and how can they contact you now and if elected how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?

I promise to remain easily accessible and in and around the community if elected, unlike previous candidates who were only seen during elections. voters can email me at [email protected] or send me a message on X @pedrodc2024
