Naby Keita hits a new low as players explain their feelings about the former Liverpool star

Former Liverpool star Naby Keita has been voted the worst player in the Bundesliga by his fellow professionals.

Keita, who was part of Jurgen Klopp’s Champions League and Premier League winning sides at Liverpool, ended his five-year spell with the Reds last summer when his contract expired. The Guinea international returned to Germany with Werder Bremen after previously playing for RB Leipzig, but it’s fair to say his move didn’t go to plan.

Keita was forced to wait until the end of September to make his debut due to injury, and further injury problems and his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations meant he made just six appearances for the new his club until April. This was when Werder suspended him for the rest of the season after he refused to travel with the team for a match against Bayer Leverkusen.

Director of football Clemens Fritz expressed his disappointment, saying: “We will not tolerate Naby’s behaviour. He let his team down at a difficult time around our recent form, team availability and put his own interests above those of the team. “

Despite Keita denying allegations that he refused to play, his actions have apparently not gone unnoticed by his Bundesliga colleagues. In an end-of-season poll by German football magazine Kicker, 227 Bundesliga players were asked their opinion on various topics.

Keita was named the league’s worst player, receiving 25.6% of the vote. Elsewhere in the survey, there was more positive news for another former Liverpool midfielder, Xabi Alonso.
