Woman, 79, hit by speeding car in Harehills as police hunt for driver

An elderly woman has been left with serious injuries after being involved in a hit-and-run with a car that failed to stop police in Leeds.

At 4.50pm on Monday 3 June, a gray Volkswagen T-Cross, registration YH23 NPC, failed to stop for a marked police vehicle. Moments later, the car collided with a 79-year-old woman as she crossed the road in Foundry Approach, Harehills.

The car sped away from the scene and was later found abandoned on Harehills Park Road, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said.

The woman was taken to hospital and continues to receive treatment for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police’s road policing unit are carrying out inquiries to identify the driver. A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for witnesses who saw any part of the incident, including how the Volkswagen was being driven before and after the collision, in particular anyone who has relevant dash cam or CCTV footage which could help the investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 0006 Bastow at the Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting reference 13240298127 or online via live chat.”
