When the DWP will hand out one-off payments of almost £370 to state pensioners this year

A series of one-off payments of up to £367 this year will be paid to those of Staged Pension age. These are set to be made by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) but are not due to land in accounts until November at the earliest.

These come in the form of winter fuel payments, which are to help state pensioners cover the cost of higher heating bills, the DailyRecord reports. These are usually made automatically to eligible households in November, December and January.

Payments are linked to the state pension age of the people living in each household – over 60 or over 80. They are also tied to their circumstances – single, couple, both same age or mixed ages, during qualifying week in September.

Payment rates will be £100, £150, £200 or £300 for individuals, resulting in a typical household of two generally receiving £200 or £300 in total. As well as the winter fuel payments, there is also the bonus is a one-off tax-free payment of £10 made to people on the State Pension or those who claim certain other benefits during the qualifying week.

This is usually the first full week of December. More details about the winter fuel payment and the Christmas bonus can be found on the government’s website here.
