Celebrating and giving thanks for our volunteers – Sheffield Cathedral

Did you know that this cathedral is blessed to have almost 150 volunteers? Each of our volunteers cares passionately about this cathedral as a place of worship, a place of learning, a place of education, a place of music, a place of heritage, a place of community, a place of joy and celebration and so much more a lot….

From giving visitors a warm welcome to sharing the building’s history as part of a tour or school visit, from discussion groups to community choirs, from beautiful flowers to ringing bells, from building conservation to assisting with the cathedral shop, from event assistance to support services, all our volunteers, whatever they do, make a huge difference to the life and work of this cathedral. Thank you.

There are so many people who give so generously of their time at the cathedral that it would be remiss to single out anyone in particular. We love you all…. However, one volunteer, John Holding, affectionately known to us as Dr Wizard, was recently invited to a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his voluntary services at the cathedral during the COVID pandemic.
