Danny Rohl hopes to re-sign ‘superb’ James Beadle at now-rated Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have been told how likely they are to sign James Beadle this summer.

James Beadle joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Brighton in January after spending the first half of the campaign in League One.

Despite never playing above the third tier, the goalkeeper lit up Hillsborough and kept eight clean sheets in 19 Championship games.

Beadle was hailed as “superb” for his spell with the Owls, but the fairytale came to a swift end when he was forced to return to Brighton at the end of his loan spell.

However, they made it very clear on Wednesday that they want to bring the 19-year-old back to the club, while his future at Brighton remains unclear.

The Seagulls currently have Bart Verbruggen, Jason Steele and Carl Rushworth in their ranks, although the latter two could be on their way out.

While there was the potential for Beadle to challenge for a place in the team on the south coast, it now seems much more likely that he will return to the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday look set to sign James Beadle

Journalist Alex Miller wrote on X: “Understand that Wednesday’s hopes of re-signing James Beadle remain very much alive as talks continue with Brighton over a loan return. Beadle is DR’s #1 favorite.”

The Owls are still in talks with Brighton over a second loan deal, while a report from The Star claims the Seagulls are also keen to see him leave the club temporarily.

Sal Bibbo could also play a big part in his arrival, believing his positive relationship and experience at Brighton with Beadle could encourage the teenager to return.

Where does that leave Cameron Dawson?

No wonder Beadle is Rohl’s first choice after such a successful Championship campaign.

His return could throw Cameron Dawson’s future into doubt, despite the 28-year-old being offered a new contract.

It still looks like Wednesday will bring in a new stopper as well, which begs the question of where Dawson will fit in the pecking order.

Pierce Charles is also in the running for selection after signing his own contract, but the arrival of two ‘keepers could see him out on loan.
