Iceland offers update after Narborough Road store ‘arson attack’

A fire which damaged Iceland on Narborough Road in Leicester is believed to have been deliberately started. A spokesman for the supermarket said the store had reopened this morning as “normal” after the store entrance was damaged by fire in the early hours of yesterday (Wednesday, May 8).

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it received the first call at 4.22am to reports of a van set on fire outside the property. He said other calls suggested another van caught fire along with the building in Iceland.

A spokesman for Iceland said: “There was minimal damage to the store entrance and fortunately no injuries. We are working with Leicestershire Police as they continue their investigation into the incident.”

Narborough Island Road has been cordoned off after the fire

Both police and firefighters said investigations so far indicated the fire was deliberately started. A police spokesman said the force was “keeping an open mind” whether the incident was linked to another fire, also believed to have been deliberately started, at a clothes shop in Hinckley Road also on Wednesday in the early hours of the day.
