Live updates as Birmingham City’s new ground site on fire with 999 crews on site

A fire has broken out at the old Birmingham Wheels race track – which is to be Birmingham City FC’s new ‘super stadium’. The fire started at Birmingham Wheels Park in Adderley Road South at around 6.30pm today, Tuesday 4 June.

Around five fire crews from West Midlands Fire Service were sent to the scene. Black smoke was seen pouring from the site.



Residents living nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors closed. This is a live incident with updates to follow below.


“Close the doors and windows”

Households living near Birmingham Wheels Park in Saltley have been told to keep their windows and doors closed as smoke billows from the site after a fire involving tyres. West Midlands Fire Service issued the warning after it said it had sent five crews to the scene.

In a Tweet, the emergency service said: “We have 5 machines in attendance at Birmingham Wheels Park in Saltley. Crews are working hard to put out the fire involving tires. Local residents are advised to close their doors and windows.”
