The A30 closure has been called off ahead of the Royal Cornwall Show

National Highways has canceled the proposed closure of the A30 ahead of the Royal Cornwall Show.

There were concerns that the closure of the main road for roadworks from Friday evening could cause problems for people attending the show.

Highways chiefs said they had reviewed the weekend closure and made changes to take into account the volume of traffic going to and from the show.

National Highways said: “The A30 will therefore remain open throughout the Royal Cornwall Show weekend.”

The show will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The A30 was due to close from 21:00 BST on Friday and remain closed until Monday.

Cancellation is welcome

Chris Riddle, the show’s secretary, said the closure was a “big concern” for many people and he was glad it had been called off.

“It caused a lot of confusion and delay,” he said.

“There are also a lot of horses, cattle and sheep moving around, especially on the last day when the animals go home.

“It would have made life a lot more difficult and I think it will make things considerably easier.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said a temporary 30mph speed limit would be in place along the A39 at Hals Grave as heavy traffic was expected over the three days of the show.
