The Liverpool star has ruled himself out of Euro 2024 after another injury was confirmed

Liverpool striker Ben Doak has been ruled out of Euro 2024 after picking up another injury.

Doak was named in Scotland’s provisional 28-man squad for the tournament and was expected to feature in a friendly against Scotland on Monday night, only to be left out of the squad.

It has since been confirmed by the Scottish FA that the 18-year-old has withdrawn from his country’s Euro 2024 squad due to injury, dealing a major blow to the teenager. Doak has made five first-team appearances for Liverpool this season, although he has not played at any level for the club since suffering a meniscus injury while playing for the under-21s in December.

The winger returned to training with Liverpool’s first team before the end of the season last month and was on the verge of making the final for the Scotland team, especially as he is one of three available forwards, named in the initial party after QPR striker Lyndon. Dykes was forced to retire with an ankle injury.

Discussing Doak’s condition ahead of Monday’s 2-0 win over Gibraltar, former Liverpool assistant manager and current Tartan Army boss Steve Clarke said: “Look, Ben is in the squad to gain experience, to work with us.” said Clarke “He’s been out (injured) for four-and-a-half months, so let’s not put too much weight on Ben.

“He will be available (for Gibraltar), maybe a few minutes off the bench. But let’s keep Ben in the right place. Let’s not overdo it or push him too far. Let’s do it right.”
