Fernandes’ brace comes amid uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford, with Saudi Arabia interested in him.

talkSPORT understands that Fernandes wants to stay at Man United but would like more clarity on his future, with his current contract running until the summer of 2026.

And judging by his performance on Tuesday night, Man United could do well to tie him up.

After Ruben Dias’ header and a Diogo Jota penalty put Roberto Martinez’s side 2-0 up, Fernandes put the home side ahead with his rocket.

Ramos played it to Francisco Conceicao and, after finding no space between the Finnish defenders, the latter laid it back for Fernandes, who slotted the ball past goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.

Portugal looked to be home and dry but two goals from former Norwich striker Teemu Pukki in six minutes breathed new life into the contest, but Fernandes restored a cushion for the home side by heading the ball low into the bottom left corner. the first time after being taught by Conceicao.
