A man attacks Coventry Primark just minutes after walking free from the yard

A man who was caught stealing just minutes after receiving a suspended sentence has been jailed. Jordan McCallum was caught red-handed stealing from Primark in Coventry.

McCallum, 37, was jailed on Friday (May 31) after he was seen entering Primark on Broadgate, filling a bag with items and leaving without paying. He was then immediately arrested and the stolen items were returned.

It happened just minutes after McCallum, of no fixed address, was in court to receive a suspended sentence for the same offence, West Midlands Police said. His original eight-week suspended sentence for theft has now been activated, with a further four weeks added.

Chief Inspector Dave Amos, from Coventry Police, said: “The shop is a constant source of problems for retailers in Coventry and we are determined to take firm action against persistent offenders. Our teams regularly engage with businesses across Coventry to build a picture of how thieves operate and who the most prolific criminals are, and this was an example of our city center officers knowing the location, knowing the offender and acting on building on this local knowledge to prevent crime. “

A West Midlands Police spokesman added: “We fully understand the impact and frustration shoplifting can have on businesses of all sizes, it is a crime that can affect livelihoods. As part of our local policing model, our investigation, neighborhood and response teams now work more closely together to prevent and tackle crime affecting our communities.

“Using the knowledge of local officers and working with store security, we are able to more quickly identify suspects and any emerging trends or hotspots. We regularly carry out high visibility patrols in retail areas, along with other activities, to track and catch criminals.”
