A new Indian-style vegetarian restaurant is opening in the suburb of Huddersfield

Two friends and their families set up an Indian-style restaurant in a Huddersfield suburb.

Gurparsad restaurant and takeaway is on Lidget Street in Lindley and was set up by friends Harjinder Singh, from Fenay Bridge, and Palwinder Singh, from Birkby, both in Huddersfield.

Both men are Sikhs and do not eat meat, fish or eggs and do not drink or smoke. They wanted to set up a restaurant that would cater to diners, including Sikhs who love veggie and vegan food, and those who would like to try meat-free food for the first time.

The cuisine uses soy and pea protein rather than meat.

Palwinder, who is popularly known as Pally, said all the food was freshly prepared. Gurparsad – which means “Blessing of the Guru” – opened on Tuesday, June 4, and will have a limited menu for a short time while everyone finds their feet. About half of the dishes are currently unavailable, including curries.

Palwinder described Gurparsad as one of the few restaurants in the North that adheres to the strict culinary rules followed by Sikhs. The food is prepared and cooked in the traditional Sikh way.
