Christian Fuchs sends a two-word plea to Leicester City for their next managerial search

Christian Fuchs has warned Leicester City they must “act quickly” to find Enzo Maresca’s successor and insisted the new boss must help the club’s recruitment drive ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Maresca, who guided the Foxes back to the top flight at the first time of asking, was confirmed as Chelsea’s new manager on Monday – bringing the curtain down on just one short but eventful season at the King Power.

The search for a replacement is already underway and Fuchs, who was part of the legendary 2016 title-winning side, has some advice for his former club. “It’s not so much about the name who takes over, it’s more about finding a manager who can continue the path that Leicester have started,” he told Sky Sports.

“It will be a challenge for the new manager, whoever comes in, because with the threat of a potential points deduction, key players leaving and the need to balance the books – things will have to happen quickly.

“So whoever comes to follow Maresca should come very soon because I think whoever comes to follow the steps to continue this path should also have a say in terms of recruiting players who fit the system .

“Again, for me, that’s what it’s all about and that’s something that Leicester have obviously posted as well, they want to find someone to continue that way and they’re going to have to act quickly.”

Fuchs, who played 152 times for City and was also an FA Cup winner in 2021, also expressed his fear that Maresca may not get much time at Stamford Bridge.

The 38-year-old continued: “He did a great job at Leicester and Chelsea were very impressed with his work and how he implemented the style of play and brought success to Leicester in a short period of time.

“I was more surprised by the sacking of Pochettino (sic), but the biggest concern for me is again, how much time will he get? Because Chelsea’s managerial turnover was quite high at the moment. I just feel like they might not have enough time to implement their philosophy.”
