‘Best Ever’ four-storey giant screen to open at Birmingham cinema with free popcorn on offer

A giant screen is to be unveiled at a cinema in Birmingham, marking the opening with a one-weekend free popcorn offer. Omniplex Cinemas says it is opening its “most impressive screen yet” at its Great Park site in Rubery, which was previously an Empire outlet.

The new screen will show Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which opened in the UK on Thursday (May 9). While it will soon feature Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the “fun family film” IF. MAXX programs will be live on the Omniplex website on Friday (May 10) morning.

The screen features a “state-of-the-art 4K RGB laser projector, while a HUGO anti-smudge screen film ensures customers can watch movies with crystal clarity.” In addition to “immersive Dolby Atmos sound technology and 41 individually amplified speakers – “nearly three times louder than standard screens”.

The new Omniplex MAXX screen at the Great Park cinema in Rubery has 192 luxury reclining seats and 11 double sofa beds.

The new screen follows Omniplex Cinema Group’s UK expansion last year, with the cinema chain making a £22.5m investment over 18 months to acquire and refurbish existing Empire Cinema sites across the country.
