Ironic ad that brightens up the daily commute

A hilarious billboard is still making people laugh more than 20 years after it was first erected.

The billboard first appeared in 2002 and continues to bring smiles to the thousands of people who pass by it every day.




Climax Scaffolding, which is attached to the back of Broadgreen station, created the ironic sign on the back saying, “drop off at Edge Hill”.

If you’re from the city, you’ll understand the lively innuendo on the sign, but if not, we’re here to explain. With Edge Hill being the last station before Lime Street, “getting off at Edge Hill” became a local euphemism for coitus interruptedor in layman’s terms, the withdrawal method.

However, coming from Lime Street towards Broadgreen could take you to Climax.
