Leeds United set to sign ‘special’ £15m Championship star if they can’t sign Joe Rodon

Leeds United are unlikely to be able to call on Joe Rodon next season after the club failed to gain promotion, but their near rivals Hull City could provide the answer.

Rodon, 26, has been sensational for Leeds over the past 12 months. But with Premier League clubs looking to sign the Wales star, the chances of Leeds getting him back on loan look incredibly unlikely.

That’s despite Graeme Bailey telling LeedsUnited.News that Leeds will battle Premier League clubs for his signature. But if Leeds miss out on the Tottenham man, then a replacement will be absolutely crucial.

There are many players on the market this summer and Euro 2024 will prove to be a scouting pool for many clubs. But the perfect alternative to Rodon resides in Yorkshire, currently at Hull City.

Leeds should sign the £15m Hull star if they can’t land Rodon

Hull performed admirably under Liam Rosenior and were unlucky not to finish in the Championship play-offs. A key player for them, alongside former academy star Lewie Coyle, was Jacob Greaves.

The 23-year-old defender played every minute of Hull’s Championship campaign when available, starting and finishing 43 games with the ‘special’ defender suspended for the remaining three games.

TalkSPORT claim Burnley are pressing ahead with a move for the £15m-rated defender this summer, with West Ham and Everton also interested. But if Leeds can’t get Rodon, surely he would be the next best thing.

Greaves picked him ahead of Rodon on the championship team of the year

He was excellent, helping Hull keep 11 clean sheets and had a hand in six goals, captaining Hull in 10 of 43 games. He was chosen ahead of Rodon in the Championship Team of the Year alongside Ampadu.

While Greaves would be expensive in terms of transfer fee, it would only be a similar figure to what would be required to sign Rodon. His wages at a club like Hull will not be excessive.

Given that he was the best centre-back in the Championship other than Ampadu according to the team of the year, surely Leeds need to take a look at Greaves and deny Burnley the chance of his signature.
