Liverpool confirm eight new player departures and Adrian contract offer

Liverpool have confirmed they have offered goalkeeper Adrian a new contract as the departures of three promising young academy players have been officially announced.

Adrian signed a one-year extension in 2023 but has not played for the Reds since the 2022 Community Shield when they beat Manchester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.

However, with the future of No.2 Caoimhin Kelleher the subject of heavy speculation at present and the goalkeeping department undergoing a revolution at Anfield following the exits of John Achterberg and assistant Jack Robinson, veteran shot-stopper Adrian ai s -they offered another 12 months to remain in force.

The Spaniard, who signed from West Ham United in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer, is mulling over the terms as he weighs up his next move. There was interest from him in his native country last year before he opted to stay with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Adrian played 18 times in total in his first year on Merseyside, including 11 in the 2019/20 Premier League title-winning campaign, but has since slipped further down the pecking order behind first-choice Alisson Becker and Kelleher .

As a result, the former Hammers goalkeeper made just eight appearances in the four seasons since that debut tenure, but his level of experience and quality marks him out as the perfect deputy in Liverpool’s eyes.

The contract offer comes just days after Hans Leitert was announced as Fenway Sports Group’s new global head of goalkeeper, with the Austrian tasked with installing a new coaching department at Anfield.

Elsewhere, the Reds have also confirmed that Mateusz Musialowski, Melkamu Frauendorf and Adam Lewis will leave the club this month.

Poland winger Musialowski made his senior debut in the 6-1 Europa League rout of Sparta Prague in March, while Frauendorf, who has featured twice for Klopp’s senior side, will also continue after four years in the junior ranks.

Left-back Lewis has spent the last two seasons on loan with Newport County and was part of an academy squad that played in the FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup at Anfield in 2020.

Liverpool have also officially confirmed the exits of Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip, whose recent seasons at Anfield have both been marred by injury problems. Thiago’s entire campaign lasted five minutes as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal, while Matip suffered a torn ACL in early December that curtailed his own tenure.

Academy players Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne and Cody Pennington leave the club, bringing the total to 10.
