Pictures show the extent of the blaze at the Blues’ ‘super stadium’ site

Dramatic drone footage shows the extent of a fire that broke out at the old Birmingham Wheels racetrack, on the ground set up for the Blues’ new ground. A total of 22 firefighters attended the fire on Tuesday night, June 4.

West Midlands Fire Service said the fire involved tires and portable cabins and by 8pm crews were making good progress in battling the blaze, which was producing a significant amount of smoke. Nearby residents were warned to close their doors and windows just after 7.20pm as smoke billowed from the site.

Drone photos showed the aftermath of the fire, with a charred shell of a wooden structure remaining and piles of blackened tires. The city’s iconic site is set to become Birmingham City FC’s new ‘world-class’ ground after being completed in a £51million deal.
