A man has died after being hit by a car on the A42 in Leicestershire

A man has died after being hit by a car on the A42 in Leicestershire in the early hours of today. The incident closed the road for several hours.

The man was hit on the southbound carriageway near junction 12 for Packington, near Ashby, at around 2am today (Wednesday, June 5). Police said the man was seen sitting in the roadway before the collision.




East Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene alongside Leicestershire Police. The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident initially led to the full closure of the A42 in both directions between junction 12 and 13. This was later reduced to the southbound carriageway only. Motorists have been urged to avoid the area for several hours while investigations take place. Since then, the road has been fully reopened.

Leicestershire Police said its inquiries into the incident were at an early stage. The force wants to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw a man standing over the bridge near junction 12 of the A42. Anyone with dash cam footage from the time of the incident is also urged to speak to police.
