Munter-McAfee, Metzler represents Wakefield for last time | Select

Daveigh Munter-McAfee has a goal for Saturday’s Northeast Nebraska All-Star Volleyball Game.

“I just want to go out there and play my heart out one last time in a Wakefield shirt,” she said.

The outside hitter will be part of a strong group representing Wakefield in the annual contest, which is set for 2pm at the Cox Activities Center at Northeast Community College.

Munter-McAfee and Jordan Metzler will be members of the Light team. They will play one final time for Trojans coach Brittany Eisenmann, who will be assisted by Guardian Angels Central Catholic’s Maddie Gideon.

Munter-McAfee recorded 953 kills during her career, including 416 as a senior. Most of those were set up by Metzler, who had 2,410 career assists.

“We’ve played together the last four years and to play with her one more time will be special,” Munter-McAfee said.

The All-Star contest will be the closing of one volleyball chapter for Munter-McAfee, but the beginning of another.

She will return to Northeast Community College this fall to play for the Hawks.

“I like that it’s close to home and that it’s small,” Munter-McAfee said. “The girls on the team are all so close and I love the family aspect.”

Munter-McAfee started playing volleyball in the third grade and quickly relished any chance to step on the court.

“I can let it all go there,” she said. “Whatever is going on in my life, I can forget and play my game.”

Munter-McAfee knows the challenges will be greater at the junior college level.

“The play is harder,” she said. “You have to be smarter. But I’m excited to get started.”

But first is the Northeast Nebraska All-Star Game, which once again features plenty of talent.

Wakefield’s duo are joined by Light’s team of heavy hitters.

Clarkson/Leigh’s Chloe Hanel had 490 kills with a state-leading .463 hitting percentage last season. She was a two-time Daily News Class C Elite Eight honorary captain and is a Wayne State recruit.

Pierce’s Jaya Wachholtz broke the school record for kills with 1,371. The Mount Marty recruit had 517 kills as a senior to help the Bluejays advance to the Class C1 state tournament.

The Light defense should be in good shape with the Class D Elite Eight honorary captain Isabel Hass of Guardian Angels Central Catholic. She amassed 2,215 career digs, including 677 as a senior.

Wynot’s Kayla Pinkelman and Allison Wieseler were Class D Elite Eight first- and second-team selections. Pinkelman had 305 kills and 352 digs in her senior season.

The Dark Team is coached by Teresa Christensen of Stanton and Jordynn Luettel of Elgin Public/Pope John.

Includes four first-team Elite Eight selections on the roster.

From the Class C Elite Eight, Crofton’s Caitlin Guenther had 309 kills and 86 blocks, while Summerland’s Adyson Mlnarik had 395 kills, 323 assists and 363 digs.

From the Class D Elite Eight, Ashlynne Charf of Elgin Public/Pope John helped the Wolfpack finish third in Class D1 with 386 kills and 354 digs. St. Mary’s Mya Hedstrom, a Northeast Community College volleyball recruit, had 393 kills and 270 digs.
